Keeping the datacentre going would be easy if you had a pair of impulse engines and a warp drive. Sadly, there is such economic concern regarding the electrical powering of datacentres and IT in general at the moment, that there is even talk of UK businesses having to move their facilities abroad to avoid huge running costs.
At least – for a few moments anyway – the debate isn’t an entirely environmental one…
You might be relieved to hear that IT experts – rather than building consultants – have stepped in to de-bunk some of these assertions but the issue remains that a major part of IT operations costs relate to space and power.
What do you think? Is your datacentre just going to keep on growing, or are there opportunities to rationalise and reduce some overheads and start claiming back some budget for innovation?
